Visit the Antony Gormley sculptures and witness the work of an extraordinary artist. The Bregenz art house has initiated the stunning project called ‘Horizon Field’. The landscape exhibition, by the British artist Antony Gormley, spreads over an area of 150 square kilometres on a horizontal line, which is located at exactly 2,039 metres above sea level. The Bregenz art house’s art project can be visited on the mountains from August 2010 to April 2012.
One hundred life-sized castings of the human body made of massif cast iron: the installation by the artist Antony Gormley is, up to now, Austria’s largest art exhibition in the landscapes.
‘Horizon Field’ – art exhibition on Vorarlberg’s highlands initiated by the Bregenz art house
With the ‘Horizon Field’ project the Bregenz art house again adds a huge contribution to the Region’s cultural identity. Elements of beauty and idyll, but at the same time sensitivity and vulnerability are integrated in Gormley’s work. The question of ‘the role of the human being in the evolution of life on this planet’ plays a main part in this project.
Some of the sculptures are located in places, where you can take a hike to or pass by, when you are skiing in the winter. Other can only be seen, but cannot be reached. The figures represent places, where people have once been or might have been. The sculptures will be exposed to the weather during this two year presentation period, as well as to different light conditions and the change of seasons. With these different natural conditions, come different appearances and views.
Bregenz art house brings Antony Gormley back to Austria
In summer 2009 the Bregenz art house presented a comprehensive exhibition of the British artist Antony Gormley. The exhibition enjoyed a great response by both regional and international audiences. This way, the Bregenz art house was able to introduce Gormley’s artistic work to a broader audience and make him popular for the upcoming sculpture project.
