The Hotel Post can look back on a long and eventful past and is run, after staying in the family for 5 generations, by Susanne Kaufmann.
Hotel Post – A Small Luxury Hotel with a past
In the year 1850 Susanne Kaufmann’s great, great grandfather, postmaster Johann Kaspar Natter, opened the first K.u.K post office in Bezau. In those days Stage coaches were the most important means of land transport and distances of up to 100 km per day were covered. Soon a small guesthouse was also established in the small coaching station where passengers could rest and eat after their long and tiring journey.
Johann Kaspar Natter’s son, Franz Josef, took over the inn and expanded the business so that in 1920 it already boasted a total of 28 beds. From 1926 onwards the Guesthouse Post was run by Oskar and Irma Natter. They handed over the running of the hotel to their daughter Rosemarie, who was married to the architect Leopold Kaufmann.
This is when major changes took place, changes that make the hotel what it is today. The Hotel Post was rebuilt and enlarged by the proprietor personally, new rooms were added, a swimming pool and a spa section was built. The high point of this era was the opening of the spectacular tennis hall and seminar rooms.
Hotel Post becomes an exclusive Spa Hotel
In 1994 the junior proprietor Susanne Kaufmann took over management of the Hotel Post in Bezau, that in the meantime had already been awarded its 4th star. Inspired by the visionary ideas so typical to the family, new changes for the Hotel Post were soon being planned. Together with her brother, the architect Oskar Leo Kaufmann, the entire hotel was renovated. A sensational extension was built, many rooms were re-styled and a lucid, modern and elegant design was established throughout the hotel. The beauty area in the hotel was expanded and the hotel restaurant received the coveted award of one chef’s hat by Gault Millau.
In 2004 Susanne Kaufmann presented her own cosmetic series Susanne Kaufmann, which used natural ingredients from Bregenzerwald. The hotel focused more and more on relaxation, wellness and wellbeing. Thus in 2005 a comprehensive wellness area with various saunas, saltwater pool and whirlpool were added to complement the existing swimming pool and the Susanne Kaufmann Spa was opened.
Since October 2006 the Hotel Post belongs to the “Small Luxury Hotel of the World” group and to the exclusive circle of “Premium spa Resorts”.
