Alpine chalets in Vorarlberg
Challenging hike tour Mount Winterstaude

Alpine ibexes on Mount Winterstaude
Experience beautiful views and alpine chalets in Vorarlberg along with a challenging hike.
Hiking to alpine chalets starts at the Baumgarten summit station of the Bezau mountain railway. The trail gently ascends to Niedere Höhe and then goes lightly downhill to Stongerhöhealp. Then it’s time to tackle a steep climb up to the peak of Mount Stongerhöhe. An alpine trail then leads over “Hasenstrick” (where having ahead for heights is necessary!) to the peak of Mount Winterstaude.
The descent is another trail, where you pass the Lingenaueralp and climb on to Stongenalp. This alpine pasture has its own alpine dairy. When passing the humid biotope “Stonger Moos,” one can enjoy the alpine dairy at Wildmoosalp, where it’s possible to take a look around until middle of September.
The way back to the middle station of the Bezau mountain railway is on an agricultural road with little altitude difference. Then take the mountain railway back downhill. When hiking to these alpine chalets involving an alpine climb (Hasenstrick) one should have a head for heights and be sure-footed using sturdy boots. It takes a little bit longer than three hours.
The main highlights of this hiking tour, apart from the stunning panorama from the peak of Mount Winterstaude on a clear day, are enjoying traditional Austrian food served on Wildmoosalp or at the Sonderdach mountain hut.
