Hiking in the Austrian alps
Enjoy hiking holidays in Vorarlberg
Especially in autumn, hiking in Bregenzerwald offers so much incredible beauty for its visitors. Around 2,000 marked hiking paths, at various difficulty levels, are surrounded by trees in all sorts of beautiful colours. Pass idyllic mountain lakes, creeks and rough mountain tops on your way to the nicest spots in the unspoilt natural environment.
An impressive natural spectacle in your hiking holiday: accompany the hiking guide Pius to Schönenbach to watch the deer rut. Afterwards, we recommend a visit to the Schönenbacher Egender restaurant, where you can taste the popular homemade Kasknöpfle and enjoy the fantastic panorama of the Schönenbach high plateau. Around Schönenbach there are several hiking paths, from easy to advanced.
Hiking in Bregenzerwald – explore the bog … barefooted
An especially beautiful hiking path, which can also be used for jogging, leads through the following points of interest: Bezau – Reuthe – Bizauer Moos – barefooted through the bog. You start directly at the Post Bezau Hotel for this approximately two-hour hike, which contains a “barefoot-track” through the idyllic marshland landscape. Stop by at the Schwanen Hotel in Bizau and order the plum dumplings with cinnamon.
Another alpine hike, which takes about 3.5 hours is this: Bezau – Baumgarten – Schreiberealp – Schönenbach. On the Wildmoos Alp you can enjoy stunning views as far as to the Arlberg mountain.
Watch ibexes during your hikes in Bregenzerwald
In your hiking holiday in Bregenzerwald, a three to four hour ibex hike leads you to the Kanisfluh, one of the most impressive mountains in Bregenzerwald. You will have the best chances of seeing indiginous ibexes early in the morning. We would seriously recommend the Schönenbach hike to the Almisgunter Alp, if you are a true nature lover.
Stunning views – hiking in Bregenzerwald
A very impressive hike leads you to the Winterstaude at 1,877 metres above sea level. With the Bezau cable car you go up to the Baumgarten upper terminus; this is where the hiking tour to the cross on the mountain’s summit starts. Pass the humid biotope “Stonger Moos” and arrive at the beautifully located Wildmoos Alp with its own alpine diary. The highlight with this hike are the stunning panoramas and vistas.
Lake hikes in Bregenzerwald
On very hot days we recommend excursions to the many lakes in the Bezau region. Enjoy the silence at the family-friendly Seewald lake, take a hike around the unspoilt “Natural bog lake” in Bödele or experience the idyllic Körber lake in a rowing boat.
Relaxing strolls in Bregenzerwald
Fancy a pleasant non-exhausting walk? Bregenzerwald offers various routes for short, atmospheric strolls. Visit Noah’s ark, a very special, old chapel in the lower valley of Bezau or gain new energy in the herbal garden or the Kneipp basins to be found at the 400 year old Vorsäß hut in Holdamoos.
