The Schubertiade festival is known as one of the most important music festivals in Austria and is dedicated to the composer Franz Schubert. The Schubertiade is held in Schwarzenberg in the Austrian province of Vorarlberg located just a few kilometres from Hotel Post Bezau.

Franz Schubert was an Austrian composer, born in 1797 in Vienna he died aged 31 in his hometown. At a very early age his talents were apparent: his first composition was completed at the age of just 14. In the following years he composed a total of twelve symphonies, 17 stage pieces, nine overtures, 21 sonatas as well as over 600 lieder. Despite Franz Schubert’s nationwide recognition today, he did not achieve a breakthrough while still alive. However his importance as a composer is no doubt recognised today, and every year the Schubertiade in Vorarlberg is held in his honour.

1976 was the founding year of the Schubertiade Festival, which today is among one of the most important classical music festivals in Austria and also the most important Schubert Festival in the world. In 2012 more than 70 concerts and music events are on the agenda in June and in September at this year’s Schubertiade Festival in Austria. Lieder recitals, chamber music and orchestra concerts as well as readings and masterclasses are included in the varied Schubertiade programme.
