Excursion destinations in the Bregenzerwald

Culture and events in Vorarlberg
Bregenzerwald is not only popular for its beautiful landscapes but also for its cultural and traditional excursion destinations. Explore various museums and enjoy classical music in Bregenz or in Schwarzenberg.
The museum, most worth seeing, is the Juppenwerkstatt in Riefensberg, harking back to the craftsmanship and traditions in Vorarlberg. In this museum, linen is still woven according to a very old technique and is still used as the material for making the traditional costumes for the Bregenzerwald women.
The local museum in Bezau focuses on various traditions and customs in Vorarlberg. Get to know and love this, the most western state in Austria with all its unique characteristics.
Year after year, the Bregenz Festival attracts more than 200,000 visitors. The long-standing cultural programme in Vorarlberg’s capital lures classical and modern musicians with 80 events and the world’s biggest lake stage. In front of the spectacular stage design on the lake itself, with Lake Constance and the Alps acting as the backdrop, this year’s performance on the lake’s stage will be the opus André Chénier by Umberto Giodano. Bregenz on Lake Constance is always worth a visit not only because of the Festival. The lake in the German-Austrian-Swiss tri-border region is always a wonderfully varied spot for a holiday.
During the Schubertiade in August and September Bregenzerwald and especially Schwarzenberg hosts musical events characterized by the composer Schubert. The Schubertiade with special evenings, which have always been particularly influenced by Schubert’s string quartets and songs, were even held in the composer’s lifetime. In 1976 the Schubertiade was established in Hohenems and since 2001, it has been taking place in Schwarzenberg. A must for all officionados of the “German prince of songs” as well as classical music.
