Even today, traditional wood construction techniques from the Bregenzerwald provide ideas and inspiration for modern buildings and objects. The Kaufmann family of architects also has its roots in carpentry, which is evident, for example, in the Hotel Post Bezau's impressive wooden construction of the tennis hall.
The combination of tradition and innovation through the interplay of craftsmanship and design has led to a unique path of design in the Bregenzerwald. The Werkraumhaus in Andelsbuch, designed by architect Peter Zumthor, is an exhibition space and archive of the skills of the Bregenzerwald craftsmanship.
With a lot of newly built and remodeled the well-known architect family Kaufmann has created a hotel that can undoubtedly be described as the best example of Bregenzerwald architecture and crafts in Bezau. Much of the decor was designed by Oskar Leo Kaufmann specifically for the hotel and implemented by local craftsmen.
