The cultural itinerary in the Bregenz Forest is rich in diversity: opera, concerts, theatre, architecture and, of course, the Schubertiade: with some 90 events and 45,000 visitors annually, the Schubertiade in the Bregenz Forest is the most renowned Schubert festival in the world.
Nowhere else is such a large number of song recitals with the best interpreters in the world on the itinerary over such a short period of time. An additional focus are the chamber concerts and piano recitals.
“There are few things in this world that fit together as well as Franz Schubert and Hermann Prey” a journalist once said, and perhaps this is why Hermann Prey started the first Schubertiade in Hohenems in 1976 with Gerd Nachbauer. A festival for Franz Schubert, a place alongside Mozart, Bach or Beethoven, was the idea and goal of the festival.
Since the renovation of the Angelika-Kauffmann concert hall in 2001, the idyllic village of Schwarzenberg has been the primary venue of the Schubertiade. Today it has become one of the best-known festival locations in Austria and is a popular meeting places for an international audience. The encounters with outstanding artists remains in a manageable scope.
Hotel Post in Bezau is located only a few kilometres from Schwarzenberg and offers you all of the amenities for a wonderful visit to the festival.
