Indulgent hiking in a picturesque landscape
Hiking for all the senses is the motto of the indulgence hike. The Bregenz Forest is an Austrian indulgence region. The primary focus in mountain and Alpine cheese. The special feature of this cheese is the silage free milk from which it is made. The annual approximately 3,000 tonnes of mountain cheese comes from the 17 valley dairies, while the 200 tonnes of Alpine cheese is hand-made in the summer by more than 90 so-called “Sennalpen”.
Really good bread with farmer’s butter and mountain cheese, fluffy Kaiserschmarren (sugared raisin pancakes) with eggs from happy hens, a juicy schnitzel made from Alpine pork. Enjoy regional delicacies in Alpine huts, meadow farms and guest houses.
The animal kingdom in the Bregenz Forest
Discover the rare animals that make their home here. For example, the ibex, who can especially be found in the early morning hours on the south side of the Kanisfluh. There are also marmots, red deer, a great deal of birds and rare plants that also make their home all around Hotel Post. Au-Schoppernau – in aromatic herb gardens
A light hike along primarily wide trails along the Bregenzerache and through the settlement area of Au. The natural experience Holdamoos shows 400 years of Alpine history. In the middle of this cultural and natural landscape, a 400-year-old May Seed hut awaits in its original condition. This includes a suspension bridge, a small lake, a Kneipp facility and a herb garden with over 150 different herbs.
After about 2 ½ hours, you will have hiked around the approximately 6 km long trail. Take a break at Haselnussplatz, one of the many places of spiritual strength in the Bregenz Forest.
You can comfortably take the Bezau cableway to "Sonderdach" or "Baumgartenhöhe". Featuring an outstanding panorama, a firm trail first leads to Niedere Höhe (1711 m). It then branches off left and leads down to Vorderen Niedere Alpe, a mountain guest house. From here, you can comfortably hike back to the Baumgarten summit station in approximately 20 minutes.
