Time to Get Fit (Again)!

Back to list

Julian Kleinheinz is the go-to guy for all things sports and fitness at the Hotel Post Bezau by Susanne Kaufmann.

Julian Kleinheinz BSc is in charge of making sure that our guests and employees here at the Hotel Post Bezau by Susanne Kaufmann get enough exercise. His focus is on getting everyone moving in whichever way suits them best. Julian is a qualified sports scientist and personal trainer, who also trains professional athletes and competitive teams as an athletics specialist. In his previous role as a health coach, he came up with health concepts for companies and expanded on them in customized workshops. Today, he is going to be giving us a brief insight into his work for us in Bezau, the Fitness Retreat, and what he considers to be an effective workout that, most importantly of all, will deliver lasting results.

Julian, our Fitness Retreat starts with a Vital Analysis. What does that entail exactly?

We use the Vital Analysis as the starting point when working with Fitness Retreat guests to develop and finalize training goals and plans. It includes the Functional Movement Screen – a short test featuring seven exercises that tell us about the guest’s current physical state in terms of stability and mobility. This allows us to work on asymmetries in functional exercise sequences and gradually raise the bar. As a result, movements can become smoother again as well as being enjoyable and executed with better mobility. This functional preparatory work helps make fascial treatments and lymph drainage much more effective later down the line.

What would you say are the three key ingredients for an effective workout?

For me, an effective workout has to involve exercises that improve mobility, while boosting stability and building up or building on muscle strength. What this gives us is a body in perfect harmony.

Which exercises are a must in any 30-minute workout?

It’s important to always include a proper warm-up – even as part of a short workout. This will get the nervous system, muscles, and joints all fired up. Ideal warm-up options include exercises that improve mobility and movement preparation exercises like the “World’s Greatest Stretch” sequence or the “Reverse Table” yoga pose. The warm-up should be followed by a range of exercises that work on either strength or stamina.

A lot of people suffer from a lack of willpower. How can they overcome this (forever)?

As far as I’m concerned, there are simply no excuses. Since I was a child, I have had the drive to keep moving. If I’m ever lacking motivation, I try not to express the reasons behind it. In fact, I don’t even think about them too much. I simply get my sets done and I am always happy that I just got on with it in the end. And that is exactly what I try to tell our guests to do too. :-)

What do guests take away with them after completing the retreat with you?

A customized “recipe” for their own well-being. During the retreat, our guests are given a taste of a new attitude to life centered around a lasting commitment to exercise based on good techniques.  One thing they get is a selection of simple exercises they can do at home, which will help them to maintain their body’s balance.
